Winter Home School Programs

Double J Riding Club's classes and activities are designed to support both homeschooled students and students away from school with hands on learning in a variety of academic, physical, and social areas including: Early Childhood Education, Science, Creative Arts, History and Cultures, Foreign Language, Equine and Animal Sciences, Nature, Dance and Physical Education. Taught by trained professionals, each class/activity is comprised of no more than 8 students providing a small, safe, and stimulating environment, in which students are able to interact and collaborate with their peers around rich and developmentally appropriate curriculum.

Programs run Fall - Spring and are open to children from Kindergarten-12th grade. All ages are recommended ages.

If you are here for classes during the day, we can offer a supervised, quiet, clean place in which to have your lunch. Hand washing is mandatory and no more than two to a table in order to maintain social distance and provide safety to all our students.

Tiny Animal Adventures
Ideal for Ages 1-4
Private Weekend Farm Tours

What's more tot-thrilling than farm animals? Little ones can learn about and experience real live farm animals in the Tiny Animal Adventure classes at the Double J's Farm! (Formerly known as Parents & Tots)

In each 60 minute class, a parent/toddler duo might explore the farm grounds, listen to an animal-centric story, create a craft, feed animals, participate in Farm Yoga or play various games!

Each class is themed (e.g. Lucky Lizards, Animals of the Night, etc.) and will guide our activities for the week.
This is the perfect way to get your little one ready for Junior Farmers and a great activity for parents and siblings ranging in age!

Barnyard Beats
Ideal for Ages 1-4

During this Farm music class your child will learn fine motor skills, rhythm, movement, beats and more as they serenade our farm animals.

Farm Art
Ideal for Ages 4-7

This course will allow students to experiment with paint, watercolors, outdoor materials, collaging materials, and so much more! Let your child’s inner artist out using Double J’s farm as inspiration! Each week, students will create a beautiful work of art you would be proud to showcase in your home.

Junior Farmers
Ideal for Ages 4-7

A pre-school age enrichment program for kids who love animals and nature that will foster their independence and curiosity as they get down and dirty on the farm!

At Double J Farm, our Junior Farmers learn through hands-on, nature-based experiences that address the developmental needs of children ages 3 to 6 as they explore the plant life and animals at our farm.

These 60 minute classes take learning to a higher level than the Tiny Animal Adventure class and are primarily drop off. After one class, your animal lover or critter extraordinaire will want to join us all season long for this unique, down in the dirt learning experience that will last a lifetime!

Every week has its own theme, so your child will learn new concepts all year long! These themes guide our educational activities and include a variety of: animal, agricultural, science, and nature topics.

Little Art Explorers
Ideal for Ages 4-7

Little Art Explorers has so many benefits from squishing in paint, exploring colors and textures, learning about nature around us, developing fine and gross motor skills, making friends and building confidence at an early age! This extremely messy art class will teach babies and toddlers the basics of art mediums, colors, and shapes as they use fun art tools to create little masterpieces. A farm tour is included at the end of each class. All students must attend with an actively participating adult and wear clothes that they are ready to get messy in! (PAINT WILL BE USED!)

Dr. Seuss on the Loose
Ideal for Ages 4-7

"The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go."

Come join us and Dr. Seuss as we learn! Health, Science, Safety, Art, Math, Music, Social Studies, Phonics and Physical Education are a blast when Dr. Seuss and the Double J animals put their magical touches to the curriculum.

Junior Scientists
Ideal for Ages 4-7

Get energized this semester as we learn all about fun experiments with an animal theme. Each week, students will learn about an amazing animal adaptation, complete a science experiment to learn more about that adaptation and then meet and greet with the animal of the week. Students will work out loud through the scientific method as they predict and discuss their observations.

Class time: Cost: $200 for Full Semester

Rodeo Round-Up
Ideal for Ages 3-7

Calling all Cowboys and Cowgirls. This class is all about rodeo fun!! Each class includes a horse story and fun activity including pony crafts, horse activities, learning to groom/decorate a pony and MORE!  THERE WILL BE A PONY RIDE IN EVERY CLASS.

Animal Olympics
Ideal for Ages 1-4

Watch your toddler go for the gold as they learn to jump like a bunny, run like a horse and waddle like a duck in our Animal Olympics class.  This class will teach your child to perfect their animal moves as they compete in a weekly Animal Olympic event.  Dress for the weather,  as this is an outdoor class.

Equine Science
Ideal for Ages 7-11

Students in this course will gain a strong understanding of horsemanship through readings, hands-on activities, and journaling. During this educationally rich science program, students will learn: how horses move, their anatomy, horse's jobs, horse's gaits, their wants and needs, proper care, horse history, and art!

The journal resource is PACKED with interactive pages that will allow students to travel through horse and human history, document their results from various experiences, record what they've learned, complete breed of the week profiles, understand equestrian vocabulary and even some crafts!

Cost: Classroom Only is $150 (10 week semester)

Riding Add on is $45 per lesson

Introduction to Veterinary: Large and Small Animals
Ideal for Ages 7 and Up

Throughout this course, students will learn the importance of preventive care, proper diet, common illnesses, animal anatomy, wound care and more using the animals on Double J Riding Club's property. This course will work with both our large and small animals and will include the full horse veterinary mini session within the schoolwork.

Ecology: Animals and Habitats
Ideal for Ages 7-11

Does your child have a love and interest for animals and their environment?!

Students in this course will gain a strong understanding about habitats and the animals and plant life that call them home! The class will be enhanced through readings, hands-on-activities, experiments, observations, and journaling.

Each semester will feature a new habitat that your child will become an expert on! Activities include: journals, outdoor exploration, experiments, and plenty of animal interaction!

Class time: Cost: $155.50 for Full Semester

Zoology: Dogs
Ideal for Ages 7-11

In this 10 week class students will study dogs of all shapes and sizes, from tiny dachshunds to the Bernese Mountain Dog. Students will learn about how we and other animal care organizations care for their animals. The class will be enhanced through readings, journaling, and interaction with dogs.

Farm Hand 101
Ideal for Ages 6 and Up

Farm Hand 101 will learn all about real farming and teamwork while doing age-appropriate farm chores and animal care in a fun way! Chores include giving animals baths, collecting eggs, gardening, caring for animals, making natural cleaners, cleaning habitats, helping feed animals, creating animal enrichments, and more! Rubber boots and messy clothes are mandatory.

Junior Zookeepers
Ideal for Ages 4-12

Whether you are looking to add to your personal menagerie or just an animal lover extraordinaire, come join us on this zoo adventure!

Activities may include: learning animal fun facts, building toys for animals, creating animal art masterpieces, viewing animal habitats, caring for animals, playing fun animal themed games, cooking animal treats in the kitchen, and of course meeting the animals!

Each class is themed and will guide our activities for the week. This is the perfect way to get your child exposed to a variety of different species of animals.

Slime Chemistry and Other Fun Experiments
Ideal for Ages 5 and Up

Science can be gooey fun while learning chemistry!! Slime time provides an entertaining lesson on polymers and their properties. These somewhat complex chemistry topics are introduced in a fun and hands-on way to help them see science in action! Each messy and fun filled week will go over a different topic for chemistry or another science! The slime weeks will  be: Week 1 will cover the properties of polymers and cross-linking agents. Week 2 will go over the basics of acid-base reactions. Week 3 will go over the basics of the scientific method as students design and implement their own slime based experiment! The next 7 weeks will explore other forms of fun hands-on experiments.

Physics: Simple Machines
Ideal for Ages 7-11

Throughout this semester dive into these 6 simple machines; wheel, lever, incline plane, wedge, screw and pulley. Students will learn how they were used in history, how we use them now, and create their own simple machines.

Ideal for Ages 7 and Up

Welcome to Weather Wonders. In this hands on wacky weather class, students will learn about Lightning and Thunder, Clouds and Rainbows, Blizzards, as well as Tornados and Hurricanes while conducting their own weather experiments and crafting their own storm systems.

Grab your passports and join us for this beloved program! Throughout this multi-semester course, students will travel to more than 30 countries while encountering their culture, traditions, holidays, crafts and celebrations. Regions of the USA
Ideal for Ages 7 and up

The United States is a vast country that is often broken down into regions. There are four main regions in the US according to the Census Bureau including the northeast, midwest, south, and west, although some add more divisions. In this class students will work with an interactive work book to learn all of the US states and important information about each one, including what region they belong to.

Horse Lover's Math
Ideal for Ages 7-11

Horse Lover's Math is the perfect way for horse crazy kids to improve their math skills as they learn about the real-world of horses. Students will calculate problems such as horse's height, weight, heart rate, tack store prices, feed percentages, horse show time schedules, stall square footage, and more! Students will work with math operations such as adding, subtracting, multiplication, decimals, fractions, division and more.

Kids Garden Club
Ideal for Ages 7-12

This class is perfect for the gardeners of tomorrow!! What makes leaves green? Why do plants need sunlight to thrive? Why do plants grow better in loamy soil than clay? This course explores plant science in addition to craft activities that allow children to create something beautiful all while accumulating plant knowledge and responsibility. Our Kids Garden Club is a year round class that builds on gardening knowledge throughout the seasons.

Private Art Lessons
Ideal for Ages 7 and Up

Come learn about a new medium for 5 weeks! Choose from 5 different art mediums, Oil Paints, Acrylic Paints, Watercolor, Colored Pencil/ Marker, or Oil Pastels. You will have full creative liberty to create any piece of art you want or you can have our Lead Artist, Jen, guide you through a project! Have siblings or a friend you want to bring with? You can add up to 4 other students at a reduced rate.

 

Cost: $250 for the semester for one student, an additional $200 for each student after, up to 4.

Paper Arts
Ideal for Ages 7 and Up

Join our Art Director, Jen, as she introduces your child to the creative world of Paper Arts.  Have fun creating amazing paper art pieces that your child can proudly display at home.  We will be covering the art of Origami, Paper Mache, Collage Design, Printmaking , Scrapbooking and Card Making.

Cost: $200 for the semester

Mixed Media Art
Ideal for Ages 7-11

Join us as we paint, draw, build and create with clay, wire, paints, pastels, and more in this explorative and fun Art Lab! Students will make exciting projects with a different medium each week while having plenty of creative exploration time in this encouraging and supportive environment. ​This class is fun, educational, and accessible class for young artists of all experience levels. Projects are new in every session.
