Two Fan Favorites begin again in September, Horsemanship 101 and Farmhand 101

Horsemanship 101:

Students in this course will gain a strong understanding of horsemanship through activities in the classroom as well as plenty of time in the barn. During this hands on program, students will learn how to be safe around horses, properly handle horses, groom and tack independently, proper horse nutrition, and more! Whether you are currently enrolled in riding lessons or have never handled a horse before this class will enrich your understanding of good horsemanship. Perfect for children 6 and up as well as adults! Classes begin on September 6th.
Saturdays from 9:30-11 am

Farm Hand 101:

 

Farm Hand 101 will learn all about real farming and teamwork while doing age-appropriate farm chores and animal care in a fun way! Chores include giving animals baths, collecting eggs, gardening, caring for animals, making natural cleaners, cleaning habitats, helping feed animals, creating animal enrichments, and more! Closed toe shoes and messy clothes are mandatory. This class is perfect for ages 4 and up! Classes begin the week of September 8th.

Double J Riding Club’s Farm School is a learning pod rooted in the belief that children learn best when able to use their hands, imagination and critical thinking to solve day to day problems.  Situated on an educational farm, children will spend the majority of their time outdoors immersed in hands-on learning inspired by the natural world and guided by teachers with both the professional experience and educational degrees to allow them to achieve learning targets based on elementary educational standards.

Our family-owned urban farm provides a wonderful teaching site where children will learn how to grow produce and interact with botany, learn about animals and their habitats, raise livestock and form an understanding and appreciation that they are part of the natural world, not separate from it.

Join our caregiver and tot class held at the silo classroom. Our little farmers will learn about farm animals through a variety of activities. Activities may include listening to a story, creating a craft, playing a game, or making food for animals. Each class ends with a visit to the farm to meet and greet our animals. This class is perfect for getting children ready for Junior Farmers or Farm School. Each week is a different theme which makes it perfect to try out multiple weeks.

Equestrian Center Annual

Student Horse Show

Student Horse Show will take place on August 17th, 2025 from 8 am – 5 pm. The show is open to Double J and JEC students of all levels. Students receive encouraging feedback on their riding skills from a professional horse show judge. Students that are participating in group or private lessons are welcome to compete, please note all classes will be in a group setting of up to 6 riders.

The show takes place at Double J Riding Club located at 10545 W 74th Street, Countryside IL 60525

Every student receives a ribbon for the flat and course portion of the show!

The Johnson Properties encourages family and friends to come out and cheer on the rider. The $85 entry fee includes one flat and one course group class.

A few things to keep in mind:

-Please make sure you give us 4 separate horses. It is very important for our horse selection process. These horses should be horses you are confident on and ones you regularly ride in your current lessons.

-We will assign ride times and horses 1 week prior to the horse show.

-Please sign in at least 30 minutes prior to your ride time. Your specific riding portion of the show will last around 30 minutes.

–Friends and families are allowed and encouraged to come cheer you on.

-There is no fee to come watch. You are also allowed and encouraged to stay and watch other classes anytime throughout the day as well as walk around to the different tables and activities going on at the show.

-We are excited to have PIZZA 750 Woodfire Pizza Food Truck serving delicious food and drinks throughout the show.

-Double J’s IEA team will be holding their annual bake sale.

-Double J’s IEA team will be collecting items for Coats For Kids. Please bring any gently used or new coats, hats, gloves or scarves of any size to donate to this great cause.

 

-This is a casual student horse show so there is no required apparel for the show.

–Closing date for the horse show is August 6th

-To enter, please sign up using the link below. We can NOT save any spots without registration and payment completed.

Tiny Rider Class

Tiny Riders will be competing in a group setting each with their own leader on the ground. Students will do a small flat portion and then an obstacle course. Each student will receive a champion medal! Priced at $40.

Calling all ducklings ages 2-4! Waddle over to Double J Riding Club and get your feet wet in our newest Farm School addition: Little Ducklings! Each Class we will explore different animal groups, all while becoming comfortable with our letters, numbers, shapes and colors. We’ll practice following directions, develop our fine and gross motor skills and grow our social skills with our new friends. This program is perfect for transitioning your little one into a school setting. Our flexible model allows for one adult to accompany your child until they are comfortable staying on their own. Our instructors will work with you to offer your child more independence at a comfortable speed. Whether you want to just dip a toe in or dive right in, this program is for you!
